Volunteers required - a speaker to lead the committee, plus researchers and procedure creators to work together and create the ideal election process for National and Local Area Assemblies.
This team will work with the Information Technology Committee to deliver necessary functionality for online voting, but will also encompass non-online solutions.
1. Purpose
The Elections Committee exists to uphold and facilitate the people’s right to self-governance by ensuring that all assembly elections open, fair, transparent, and lawful.
Our role is to support the Assembly in expressing the collective will of the people through transparent and Lawful voting processes.
2. Scope & Responsibilities
Develop & maintain election procedures
Create simple, clear guidelines for conducting elections at the Local, State, and National levels.
Coordinate elections
Oversee and support the organisation of Assembly-related votes, including:
3. Guiding Principles
Transparency: All processes must be open and visible to Assembly members. Initiative and/or nominees for election details must be provided allowing fully informed decisions by electors.
Fairness: Every qualified elector has an equal voice.
Consent: Authority is granted through the free will of the people.
Integrity: Results must reflect the true will of those present and voting.
Subsidiarity: Local decisions are made at the most local level possible, unless escalated by agreement.
4. Committee Structure
A minimum of 3 core members, preferably with representation from different States or Local Areas
Roles may include: Convenor, Recorder, Returning Officer, Technical Liaison
Committee may invite observers or form working groups as needed for specific tasks
5. Accountability
The Elections Committee is answerable to the National Assembly and must provide regular reports on its activities.
All processes, criteria, and outcomes will be documented and available for public inspection within the Assembly.
