On 6 July 2025, Terra Australis declared its independence and its peaceful intent.<\/p>\n
It was not merely a date for the calendar. It was a line drawn in the sand, a quiet but powerful decision that living men and women could choose to stand together, take responsibility for their communities, and begin the work of self-governance.<\/p>\n
One year later, we celebrate our first Independence Day anniversary with gratitude, reflection and renewed purpose.<\/p>\n
We are not celebrating because the work is finished. We are celebrating because the work is alive.<\/p>\n
Across Terra Australis, men and women have stepped forward to learn, connect, contribute, ask better questions, support one another and begin building the practical foundations needed for peaceful, community-led self-governance.<\/p>\n
What began as a declaration has become a growing network of assemblies, action groups, coordinators, educators, organisers, researchers, builders and neighbours.<\/p>\n
On 6 July 2025, Terra Australis State Nationals declared, recorded and published independence and peace.<\/p>\n
Those declarations gave voice to a shared intention: that we would no longer wait for distant institutions, corporate service providers or political parties to solve the problems affecting our homes, families and communities.<\/p>\n
Instead, we would assemble.<\/p>\n
We would learn to govern ourselves.<\/p>\n
We would take responsibility for the land, soil, resources, infrastructure and relationships that shape daily life.<\/p>\n
Land Law was invoked on Terra Australis on 1 October 2025, grounded in enduring principles:<\/p>\n
These principles are simple enough for a child to understand, yet strong enough to guide a nation.<\/p>\n
They remind us that true freedom is not about avoiding responsibility. Freedom is the willingness to carry responsibility with integrity.<\/p>\n
Over the past year, assemblies have continued to grow across Terra Australis.<\/p>\n
Regular gatherings, newcomer sessions, workshops, online calls and local meetings are now bringing people together in communities in regions all over Terra Australis, from Cairns to Warnambool, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.<\/p>\n
People are meeting in halls, parks, caf\u00e9s, community spaces and online rooms. They are sharing food, ideas, experiences and questions. They are learning that self-governance is not a spectator sport.<\/p>\n
It is practical.<\/p>\n
It looks like a local group discussing food security.<\/p>\n
It looks like neighbours working through a concern affecting their town.<\/p>\n
It looks like a newcomer being welcomed without pressure and given time to learn.<\/p>\n
It looks like people sitting together, listening respectfully, even when they do not agree.<\/p>\n
It looks like moving from frustration to contribution.<\/p>\n
Across the nation, coordinators have been sharing what works, strengthening meeting structures, creating welcoming entry points for newcomers and encouraging practical action groups that allow people to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n
This is how a living assembly grows: not through perfection, but through participation.<\/p>\n
Independence requires more than inspiring words. It requires structures that can serve communities with transparency, accountability and care.<\/p>\n
Throughout the past year, volunteers have continued developing the four-pillar assembly model, including the General Assembly, Governance Assembly, Jural Assembly and Guardianage Assembly.<\/p>\n
Work is underway to create systems that can support communities in real and practical ways:<\/p>\n
These are not abstract ideas sitting in a folder somewhere.<\/p>\n
They are being shaped by passionate men and women who are offering their time, skills and courage to help build something better.<\/p>\n
A nation is not created by one voice.<\/p>\n
It is created through thousands of acts of responsibility.<\/p>\n
One of the most beautiful things to emerge over the past year has been the willingness of people to serve.<\/p>\n
Some have stepped into coordinator roles.<\/p>\n
Some have helped newcomers understand the journey ahead.<\/p>\n
Some have created websites, written documents, organised meetings, hosted calls, recorded information, designed education materials, worked on technology, supported health initiatives or shared their knowledge with others.<\/p>\n
Some have simply shown up consistently.<\/p>\n
That matters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Every assembly needs thinkers, listeners, builders, organisers, storytellers, peacekeepers, teachers, gardeners, carers, researchers, technicians, recorders and people willing to put chairs in a circle and make someone feel welcome.<\/p>\n There is no small contribution when a community is being built from the ground up.<\/p>\n The past year has also shown the importance of education.<\/p>\n Many people arrive at TASA carrying years of unanswered questions. They know something is not right, but they may not yet have the language, history or confidence to explain what they feel.<\/p>\n The answer is not to overwhelm them.<\/p>\n The answer is to welcome them.<\/p>\n Through educational materials, newcomer sessions, Q&A calls, document support, community discussions, public outreach and The Terra Australisan, people are being given opportunities to learn at their own pace.<\/p>\n Education is becoming a bridge between confusion and confidence.<\/p>\n It helps people move beyond fear, beyond anger and beyond the feeling that they are alone.<\/p>\n It reminds them that there are others who have asked the same questions, faced the same challenges and chosen to keep going.<\/p>\n The past year has not been without challenges.<\/p>\n Building anything worthwhile brings differing opinions, difficult conversations and moments where patience is tested.<\/p>\n Yet these moments are part of the work.<\/p>\n A peaceful assembly is not one where everyone thinks the same way. It is one where people can speak honestly, listen respectfully and keep returning to the shared principles of doing no harm, causing no loss and keeping the peace.<\/p>\n That is the path Terra Australis is choosing.<\/p>\n Not violence.<\/p>\n Not division.<\/p>\n Not endless complaint.<\/p>\n But practical, peaceful, community-led action.<\/p>\n Independence is not something that happens once and then sits framed on a wall.<\/p>\n It is a living practice.<\/p>\n It is the decision to take responsibility for our families, our communities and the future we are leaving to our children.<\/p>\n It is choosing to become informed rather than manipulated.<\/p>\n It is choosing contribution over helplessness.<\/p>\n It is choosing neighbours over isolation.<\/p>\n It is choosing peace over provocation.<\/p>\n It is choosing to build the world we want to live in, instead of waiting for someone else to build it for us.<\/p>\n On this first anniversary of Terra Australis' Independence Day, we honour every man and woman who has contributed to the journey so far.<\/p>\n To those who declared, recorded and published their intention and status.<\/p>\n To those who assembled.<\/p>\n To those who learned.<\/p>\n To those who questioned.<\/p>\n To those who served.<\/p>\n To those who stayed when the road became difficult.<\/p>\n To those who are only now beginning to feel the pull to become involved.<\/p>\n There is a place for you here.<\/strong><\/p>\n The next chapter will not be written by a handful of people.<\/p>\n It will be written by communities all across Terra Australis, one conversation, one action group, one gathering and one act of responsibility at a time.<\/p>\n May we continue to grow in wisdom, courage, peace and unity.<\/p>\n May we remain honourable in our agreements.<\/p>\n May we care for one another.<\/p>\n May we build an abundant Terra Australis for ourselves, our children and the generations yet to come.<\/p>\n Assemble.
